The Asian American Cybernauts Page provides selected links to the Asian Pacific American (APA) community on the Internet. This website was inspired in Summer 1995 with the Internet Guide for Asian American Cybernauts, first published with the help of the UCLA Amerasia Journal and APANet.
We hope that by exploring these resources, a greater appreciation, and understanding of the diversity and depth of Asian Pacific Americans will be revealed. The WWW resources provided by this site relate primarily to Americans of Asian ancestry with a focus largely on minority, cultural, multicultural, and ethnic diversity issues.
This is a non-commercial website, and supported solely by volunteer efforts, so any help will be appreciated. Please let us know of any Asian American websites and electronic resources that might be out there. You can add a link to this site yourself. (See below.)
Regarding the web page design philosophy, it is for simplicity and speed to minimize the "World Wide Wait" - minimum graphics, no frames or banners or advertising. I personally have only a 14.4 bps modem, so I hope this makes some sense. This website is also compatible with such "classic" WWW browsers like Lynx. Maybe this is backward thinking, but it's easier to take care of these pages.
June 1998. Please forgive the "disappearance" of the Asian American Cybernauts website from it's previous location at www.netasia.com/~ebihara/aacyber.html. The server hosting this website crashed which resulted in all my files being lost.
November 1998. I'm trying to keep this website and the various links updated. If the URL of your site changes, let me know. I'm still in the search of Asian American quotations -- check out "Saying Something". Finally, if you like this website, please let other people know about it.
January 2000. Happy New Year! Still trying to keep this site updated, but very limited in time. One new interesting project I'm working on is a community discussion forum. Please check out the "Ramen Asian American community forum". If you don't see what you like here, remember that the contents of this new conference area is all up to you, so please help out and contribute your thoughts. I can help to provide a structure, but the information contents is up to the community. There's a calendar, chat room, and job postings too.
November 2000. Apologies to users that I haven't had the time recently to keep this website updated (especially any broken links), but it still maybe be a good starting point to get you started in finding Asian American information online. Hopefully when I get a break, I'll clean things up and add more information. Thanks for dropping by!
Goodbye. Unfortunately, this website is no longer being
maintained, but will be kept online for historical reasons. This website was created in a
time (1994) when only a handful of Asian American websites existed -- now
there are thousands. With efficient search engines like Google and
Yahoo, hopefully many of the online Asian American resources can be easily
found. Thanks for visiting!

Some other places on the Web to visit...
Race is an issue for finding a suitable match for a bone marrow transplant. There is a need for Asians in the National Marrow Donor Registry. Please save a life and visit the A3M website.
Take time to read an inspiring quote for the week from the Inspiration Point web site, or just today's fortune cookie.
There are Asian American newsgroups on the Internet, like soc.culture.asian.american, but be very careful of so-called "flames". Search Deja News Discussion Groups for Asian American items. Asian American mailing lists are another source of information. APAnet takes care of several lists mostly oriented to the community in southern California.
Please makes sure to visit Robert Irie's Asian American Resources Page with many more links to Asian American cyberspace. This page was one of the very first. The AAR Page houses links to many Asian American personal home pages.
And not to forget the friends up North, the Asian Canadian Web Site is another online resource for Asian North Americans.
The ACON page contains links to many
progressive APA community organizations. Another website to visit for
social service and health information is APANet.
And read "Finding
Asian America in Cyberspace" by Oliver Wang and Larry Wong
(AsianWeek, May 9-15, 1997).
Anti-Asian violence is still an issue. Please don't let Thien Minh Ly's name be forgotten as a victim of another senseless hate crime, or the incident at Denny's in Syracuse, New York. Read the Kao family appeal for help.
Asian Americans are becoming more politically active, and email and the web are both being used as tools. Check out the activities of the 80-20 Initiative which is a political action committee for Asian/Chinese American issues of equality and justice.
Finally, special thanks go out to friends (you know who you are), members of AAGPSO, the Asian American community, and fellow cybernauts who have helped to contribute to this website. Also, appreciation goes out to the many users of this site. Your kind supportive comments and feedback, have inspired me to keep this web project going.
